Mission Impossible

Not that it’s ever quiet here in HK but the last month or so has been positively manic. I can't claim to have been working 24/7 but between the last quarter being our busiest, possibly rather too much sporting endeavour and the occasional beverage the time has just flown by.

October started with another trip to Bangkok, I've been there four times now and it’s amazing how although the place never seems to change my time there is never the same. On this trip I met up with Hannah (she was on route to India) and to say that put a different emphasis on proceedings relative to my last visit (the rugby tour) may be a bit of an understatement.

We had a great weekend enjoying a few of Bangkok's finer offerings including Poe Watt's massage institute and the Sukhothai's Thai restaurant as well as the usual BK favourites. Good as the weekend was I did have one rather tricky mission while we were there. Being an unmarried western woman in India can mean you receive rather a lot of fairly aggressive male attention, it is therefore prudent to dress conservatively. With this in mind Hannah and I hit the Chatuchak Weekend Markets in order to downgrade her wardrobe a little.

Has any man out there ever had to go clothes shopping with a woman where the aim is to find things that don't look sexy, stylish or flattering, add to that a shoestring budget as they have a shelf life of just a few months and any comments have to be well considered! I’m pleased to say the mission was accomplish without injury though we had to simplify the criteria to just fairly conservative, unattractive just wasn’t going to happening!

As I said I've possibly been overdoing the sport a little of late and my body is suffering accordingly. At the moment I've rugby on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays plus footie Wednesdays and Sundays, leaving just Monday for the occasional game of squash and Friday's for resting (admittedly usually if not always in one of HK's many fine watering holes!). My footie team is doing pretty well at the moment (we beat the division leaders in a cup game yesterday) but the same can’t be said for Valley (my rugby team), however as we've just installed a new captain hopefully we'll soon make winning a bit more of a habit.

In other news as Sean now has the wee one to look after he isn't able to come out drinking as much as I think a man should, so last Saturday I figured if the man can't come to the drinker the drinker would have to come to the man. I'm pleased to report that an increase in numbers hasn't diminished the Roche house’s ability to entertain and I'm told it was a great honour to have young Callum vomiting over my shoulder. I'm not so sure on that one but guess it beats his father doing it!

And that's me save a trip to the HK Octoberfest for stag do, a rampage through TST with the rugby team abusing locals with bear accessories, a couple of birthday celebrations, a bit of hill walking and meeting The Rt. Hon. the Lord Woolf of Barnes at an even I organised - if you know about Civil Justice Reforms that's rather impressive!?!

Until the next time,

JP
