The beginning

So Sean's getting married and the chump has decided the local church doesn't really fit the bill, in fact the local country, continent or even hemisphere aren't quite right so he's asked me to join him just outside Cape Town South Africa to be his best man for a dream wedding on the beach.

Now going was never in doubt, but do I stay and continue around the world or return to the UK to run the shows I've been working on for months in Barcelona, London and Brussels? I'd already written plans, briefs and all the e-mails, letters and god knows what else to make sure non of the shows would do tits up while I was away for a couple of weeks a week before the first conference but...

So picture this, I'm on a chair lift, I'm in the French Alps, I have a lift pass and I'm about to throw myself off the biggest steepest piece of mountain I can find but before I jump I've about 20 minutes to chat to the person next to me about how they left their job, friends and "normal" life to go travelling a few years ago and how it was the best thing they'd done and how nothing but them changed while they were away.

Next scene; Saturday night, still n the Alps and surprisingly, I'm in the pub. Another chat and this time I'm drunk so logic works far better and my ability to make decisions normally requiring endless consideration are now perfectly obvious so when posed with the questions to assess if I should stay or go the answers just work..

Qu: If I resign today could I get the same one tomorrow/ next week/ next year?
Ans: Yes, actually probably better!

Qu: Is there a girlfriend or significant other?
Ans: Would I be talking to random girl in the Alps if I did!

Qu: Any kids/ mortgage/ dependants or anything other than a few good mates holding you to London?
Ans: No

Suddenly my life in London seems a little shallow, and give the previous comment that the only thing that, if I went I'd be the only one on my friends that would change, it would appear that I'm going on a world tip, the only thing to do is tell the folks and what better time than 12.30am on a mobile from the pub, brilliant!

So it's the Tuesday after and the Saturday night, I resigned soon after 9am yesterday and today I bought a ticket taking me from London to Joburg to Perth and on to Sydney. Here we go!
