Office life!

Well, what can I tell you.....

I guess my biggest news is that I'm back in the world of full time employment, d'oh! The place I'm working is actually ok and at least doing a regular 9-5 office job which gives me my evenings and weekends to enjoy Sydney.

It wasn't always this easy though, before landing the soft office job I was doing hard labor in warehouses scattered around Sydney's suburbs, packing and unpacking boxes and counting copious quantities of plumbing screw fittings and gardening equipment, moving furniture and generally getting my hands dirty. One of my most exciting roles as an attempt to audit what may of been the biggest DIY store in Australia, fun fun fun.

That said, I know what a few of you'll be thinking, being stuck in a DIY store probably wasn't the living hell for me that it may of been for so called "normal" people and that I'd actually quite like it. To be honest, you're right, and get this, I even got to drive a fork-lift truck about for a few days! I have to admit the sensible/ better paying office job very nearly didn't happen.

Outside work I've eventually escaped backpacker life and have found a bed in a shared room in an apartment, so after 4 weeks in a Sydney hostel and about 6 months on the road I've now got a bed that feels like my own. The apartment is right in the centre of Sydney and although the landlord makes Miss Perveen and Mr. Agawall (for those of you from Manchester) look good (for those of you not from Manchester that not good) the place is clean and has a gym and pool so should be a good place to rest my head for a while at least. As I said I'm sharing a room as it helps keep the price down but it seems to be going ok. I'm sharing with a pair of twins from Cardiff that I met soon after getting to Sydney and so far life with them is proving entertaining so fingers crossed.

So what else is new... The only thing I'm struggling with here in Sydney is finding the time to head to be beach to put in a suitable number of hours surfing. As I'm living a little way from any of the surfing beaches and working towards Botney it only really leave the weekends at the moment and they've been taken up with going to the races, relaxing at the latin American festivals and chilling out listening to live jazz from the comfort of a bar stool so I've not really made the most of being 30 minutes from waves compared to about 8 hours back in London.

Slight admission on the office job front, I'm doing telesales! I know, I've sold my soul to the devil/ dollar but what can I do... To make it worse all my calls are monitored (or at least logged on a system) so I can't even slack off and just pretend to be working. Fasinating facts for you all, last week I made a total of 302 calls, 251 of them were answered and I got 22 people to sign up, now don't try telling me these e-mails are getting boring!

Life in Sydney seems to be pretty non stop and I've an especially busy week this week as a girl I met over in Perth has come over to Sydney for a holiday so I'm duty bound to show her the city's highlights (only really know Kings Cross but hopefully I'll find something nicer) and I've also (probably stupidly) promised to teach Sian and Rhian (the twins) to surf at some point so ... I'm also finally going to get round to sorting the Sydney Reedgects division and meeting up with young Mr. Peasland for a beer or two some time very soon so it's all go down here.

And that's me, hope you're all being good and keeping well.

Bye for now

Jonathan
