Belated valentines wishes

Now I must start with an apology, sorry to all you ladies out there that desperately wanted my address so you could send me a card but couldn't, I'll be sure to be back in the UK for next year so you wont have to miss out again. Yes, you guessed it, the 14th of Feb was a big night here culminating in a few beers in front of the TV, d'oh!

Anyway, moving on... what else is new,

After the excitement of my landlord jumping off the balcony things settled down a bit. I talked the legal owner into letting 7 of us to stay in the flat until March (with a wall knocked down to give us a living room) and for us to pay less for it so worked out rather well.

It was a good day really as I also got a new job, this time in the exciting world of finance!!! well, sort of, it's actually telesales for Australia's oldest bank selling their customers Accidental Death Insurance! yes you read that correctly, I call about 200 people a day and talk to them about how they may die, how do I pick them... On the bright side Australia is full of people that either don't understand English very well so can be bullied into buying off me or more often are just really stupid and believe me when I tell them how good it is so hitting commission doesn't appear to be a problem.

In rather more exciting news, I did the Bridge climb this week, had though I'd have to miss out on doing it as it's a it expensive but my family being the greatest family around gave it to me for Christmas (the climb rather than the bridge) so I donned a rather sexy grey suit and climbed to the heady heights of about 140m for what was a really rather special view of Sydney and the harbour.

I did the climb with a lad from the flat and his little brother but couldn't convince either to try jumping off with me to continue the earlier theme of my trip but perhaps that's for the best. The bloke that took us up said that only one person has survived a fall of the bridge (and that was from the road level of 50m). Apparently the only reason he lived was that he was Irish and didn't understand the laws of gravity!

In other news after being in Sydney for about forever I eventually pulled my finger out and went to the Sydney Aquarium and saw the duck billed Platypus along with lots of lizards, sharks and fish (the platypus is actually classified as a mammal though this was debated for some time, has fur - mammal, lays eggs - reptile, I would continue but...). It was smaller than I though it would be, the platypus that is, the aquarium was quiet big!

We also had yet more rather impressive fireworks over darling harbour for Australia day (Jan 26th - you may of seen the fosters adverts) and countless dragons dancing in the streets for Chinese new year. As Chinese is Sydney's second most spoken language the year of the rooster was welcomed in fairly dramatically with parades through town and dragon boat racing in the harbour to name but a couple of the festivities.

And that's me, next move is a move to Bondi as just surfing at weekends really isn't enough. I don't start work until midday so am hoping to get a few hours in the water each morning before heading into the CBD to call idiots!

Hope you've all having fun back home.

Jonathan.
